A New Start

January 20, 2021 marked a special day in our history as we welcomed the new president of the United States, Joe Biden. He entered this position making a 21 minute speech about the importance of unity. Additionally, he mentioned having a fresh start or in his words “ so today at this time in this place, let’s start afresh, all of us. Let’s begin to listen to one another again. Hear one another, see one another, show respect to one another”.  And I think this quote stood out to me the most because of year we had, and the people we lost.   In my opinion, we or at least I wouldn’t want to continue with the streak of events that happened. Knowing that we can have a new beginning where we can improve, learn from our mistakes and accept each other for who we are

“The Hill We Climb” - Amanda Gorman

With the poem she presented at the inauguration she expressed her hopes for the future and how things have changed. Firstly, she states “we’ve weathered and witnessed a nation that isn’t broken but simply unfinished.” Which tells us that we still are far from perfect, but can improve and change. We can learn to live in harmony and accept each other’s differences. While working together and  fixing problems as they come. Another quote includes  We are striving to forge our union with purpose, to compose a country committed to all cultures, colors, characters and conditions of man.” Lastly, she explains how we don’t exactly have to be perfect, but the best we can do is live in a nation of acceptance and peace. I don’t think I could agree more because at this time we need to come together and get through the pandemic and many other problems we face.

Constitution Democracy Prevails

After reading the article I was pretty surprised learning how little they did to prevent them from entering. I definitely think that they should have had more guards and police considering it is our capital but I guess it's a little too late. One thing I would like to learn about is how they verify the next president and more importantly why people thought that they could somehow stop this process. Did they think could just walk in and somehow take control?
